Asbestos Testing

We
test for asbestos presence in a range of sample material
including fibre cement, artex, floor tiles, etc.
If you require analysis on any materials to
decide if they contain asbestos we can analyse these on
your behalf. To ensure the highest standards of
impartiality we send all client samples (sampled by
ourselves or forwarded by the client) to a UKAS
accredited laboratory (UKAS 2707).
All samples are analysed using polarised light
microscopy and dispersion staining techniques. There are
generally 6 types of asbestos that are found:
- Amosite
- Crocidolite
- Chrysotile
- Actinolite
- Tremolite
- Anthophylite
Amosite, Crocidolite and Chrysotile are the most
common. Amosite is sometimes recorded as Grunerite (this
is because ‘Amosite’ is a trade name asbestos mines of
South Africa, with an ‘ite’ on the end).
Chrysotile is the most common fibre type detected as
it was mined for longer and in greater volume than any
other asbestos fibre. Due to its structure (serpentine –
‘soft and curly’) it is the most versatile and was added
to thousands of different products either on its own or
in conjunction with other asbestos fibre types
