Chris’s 107 Mile Charity Bike Ride for the RVI Paediatric Gastro Fund – Read Chris’s story…….
As some of you may know, my daughter Mirren suffers from a rare combination of Crohn’s disease and Pancreatitis and has been pretty poorly over the course of the last 4 years. With things getting worse last year, we asked for a second opinion of the treatment options from other Children’s hospitals and ended up under the care of Dr Sue Bunn and her team at the Great North Children’s Hospital at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Although being over 100 miles from where we live makes the stays in hospital difficult, the care, support and skill all Dr Bunn’s team have shown Mirren and the rest of the family, especially Pete Dryden her Gastro nurse, has been fantastic. It’s been over 6 months since she had a prolonged stay in hospital, and hopefully she will return to school for the first time in over 2 years in the near future. Although there is no cure for Mirren, because of their fantastic work we all feel there is a future.
As a result I’d like to give something back if I can. I’m doing the Virgin Cyclone cycle ride around Northumberland on June 21st. It’s 107 miles around a “lumpy” Northumberland, and I reckon I’ll be in the saddle for over 7 hours. The aim is to raise £1500 for the RVI Paediatric Gastroenterology charitable fund as DR Bunn and the team are trying to get the funds together for their own MRI scanner. Anything you can donate would be really fantastic!
