Warning to Thermal flask buyers this winter!
The use of asbestos has been banned in the UK since 1999, but that doesn’t mean the importation of asbestos products has stopped.
In the past, we have found products made in China and imported to the UK have contained ACMs (Asbestos containing materials) such as ‘Pepper pig’ children’s crayons.
Recently, asbestos has been found in Thermo flasks imported from China and sold in the UK by Ebay, Amazon and even John Lewis. The products are now on a RECALL so please help to share this information. If the thermos breaks, the user may inhale asbestos fibres which will impose major health risks.
The flasks are: Thermate Thermos Flask & Pendo 1L Vacuum Flask in various colours (see photos below)
The Recall Database suggest contacting Citizens Advice, but hopefully it should be straight forward if you contact the seller.
Asbestos was banned in the UK for a reason, to protect the health of individuals. The fact that these products have been imported and sold in our UK stores, inflicting health risks to buyers is very worrying. More control over the UK border and product testing is needed.
What else is being imported with these health risks?
