Supporting a Major Manchester City Centre Redevelopment

RB Asbestos Consultants worked alongside Capita, acting as lead consultant, on a major Manchester city-centre redevelopment project involving the demolition of an old warehouse complex.

The existing buildings were due to be cleared to make way for a new 35-storey tower, making it essential that the asbestos risks associated with the existing structures were properly investigated before demolition could progress.

RB Asbestos was appointed to carry out a comprehensive refurbishment and demolition asbestos survey, providing the project team with detailed information about asbestos-containing materials within the buildings.

Surveying a Challenging and Partially Demolished Site

The condition of the existing warehouse complex presented some significant challenges.

Parts of the buildings had already been partially demolished, with missing floors, damaged areas and incomplete stairways making access and inspection considerably more demanding than a conventional asbestos survey.

The survey team had to work carefully within the changing site environment while ensuring that the relevant areas were investigated and appropriate asbestos information was provided to the project team.
