More than 80% of schools in Derbyshire contain asbestos
Evidence clarifies that over 80% of schools in the Derbyshire area contain asbestos. Derbyshire County Council has identified that 335 out of 413 schools in Derbyshire still have asbestos present in their buildings.
Asbestos campaigners argue that more needs to be done to remove all of the deadly substances to ensure that children remain in a healthy and safe environment. They claim that it is not fair for children to be exposed to cancer causing substances at such a young age!
However, Derbyshire County Council has assured parents that regulations are adhered to and that children are safe. They admit that they follow health and safety regulations to control and manage asbestos within their buildings. Furthermore, the council employs trained people to regularly check and remove asbestos when required.
Nevertheless, campaigners are still unsatisfied and claim that more needs to be done to protect children throughout schools in the UK. They’re incredibly worried about how many schools in the UK contain asbestos, they feel that it needs to be actioned imminently.
